The US Geological Survey (USGS) working under an Interagency agreement with the Department of Energy is engaged in a broad geoscience program to assess and identify a potential repository for high level nuclear waste at Yucca Mountain, Nye County.   Amargosa Valley is located approximately 88 miles ( km) northwest of Las Vegas, 35 miles (56 km) northwest of Pahrump, and 24 miles (39 km) north of Death Valley Junction, California.       Estimation of groundwater flowpaths and effective recharge was performed in the vicinity of Amargosa Desert, Nevada, USA, using multivariate statistical methods (MSMs) and a simple elevation-dependent chloride mass-balance method modified by estimating a minimum effective recharge elevation (MERE).
